Why is Hypertension important?

Hypertension (Also known as Elevated blood pressure/Raised blood pressure/High blood pressure) is one of the biggest medical challenges faced by health care professionals worldwide.

Hypertension is a serious medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated. A person’s blood pressure refers to the force of the blood pushing against the arteries (blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart). Blood is pumped into the arteries with each heartbeat and the pressure, which is greatest at this time, is known as the Systolic pressure. In between heartbeats, the blood pressure falls and this pressure is known as the Diastolic pressure. The Systolic pressure is usually the higher of the two pressures.

Hypertension is defined as a Systolic pressure greater than or equal to 140mm Hg, a Diastolic pressure greater than or equal to 90mm Hg, or both. A Systolic Blood pressure of less than 120mm Hg and a diastolic pressure of less than 90mm Hg are generally considered as normal.....More >>>
